Congratulations Earl Moyer!

…we were part of the team that constructed the University of Arizona’s Video-board.

This is the week.  A moment in life worth celebrating.

Earl Moyer’s last week at Kappcon.  I can’t even begin to express my admiration, respect, gratitude, and appreciation of Earl’s career in Construction.

You are invited to a Retirement Gathering on Saturday, October 19, 2019 3:00 – 6:00 PM at the Culinary Dropout (Tucson & Grant).

A few facts about Earl’s career:

  • In 1987, Earl Moyer was hired at Tucson Building & Remodeling.
  • In 2009, Earl Moyer was hired at Kappcon, and became one of our very first employees.
  • I wonder if he envisioned staying with TBR for 22 years and then with Kappcon for 10 years.
  • Those 32 years are only part of the construction story for Earl.  He already had decades of experience when he and Betty moved to Tucson.
  • I just counted and he has Superintended, Project Managed, performed Total Station Layout, or made other Key project contributions on 75 Projects for Kappcon.
  • 6 Months ago, Earl Started his final project, Grace Church, as both the Superintendent and Project Manager.  He completed it on time and under budget!

He has set a quality standard for all of us to aspire to.

Earl has been THE EXPERT on Layout with a Total Station (and with batter boards), Carpentry, How to utilize a Workshop, Commercial Doors & Hardware, Reading Plans, Concrete Forming, Knowing his Subcontractors, Knowing the Construction Administration Process, Keeping his jobsite safe, Keeping the Architect Happy, working out solutions with all types of Characters in the field and office, and GOING THE EXTRA MILE.

I look forward to seeing you all on Saturday, October 19 for this celebration.

Please take a minute to congratulate Earl this week  earl@kappcon.com 520-631-5917

Thank you to everyone that came to our event!  It was a fantastic time.

Kappcon Summer BBQ

This past weekend Kappcon kicked off the summer heat with a BBQ at the Crossroads at Silverbell District Park! Staff, family, and friends all joined to have some fun in the Sun with giant jenga, cornhole, and our very own Kappcon project—the Marana Splash Pad!

We kept it cool with lots of shade, ice cream, and plenty of splashing around in the splash pad. Get your feet wet this summer with some fun at the splash pad at the Crossroads at Silverbell District in Marana, open 8am to 7pm every day!

Tables and chairs are set up around a well-kept Marana park gazebo for our Kappcon Summer BBQ. Plenty of shade and space to relax, have fun, and cool off for our hard working employees.
Early arrivals help set up with our caterer. Thanks. team!
Employees stand in line to get at the delicious catering spread. Earl (in blue), definitely has the best view!
Waiting in line for some amazing food~
Isabella's Ice Cream serving retro, beach-style looks! Amazing ice cream and sorbets to keep us all cool.
We even had an ice cream truck… kid approved! Thanks, Isabella’s Ice Cream!

And thank you to everyone that makes us a family. We can’t wait for more adventures in the future with Kappcon!

Grand Opening

We enjoyed being with other local families celebrating the grand re-opening of the Flowing Wells Library on Saturday, February 23, 2019.

To quote one eighth grader present, “This library is LIT!

The Kappcon Construction Team agrees, this is one magnificent library!

The library actually is “lit” thanks to the light wall in the children’s area! Photo by Bradley Wheeler

Updates include new study rooms for teens, a children’s area, a large community room and a beautiful outdoor patio space. Kappcon is so proud of this project, several employees now use it as their go-to library! The Flowing Wells community will be well served by this engaging space.

Stay tuned for a new post with all the latest images!

A bluegrass dinner to celebrate the Christmas Season!

Merry Christmas! There was about 65 people in attendance at Kappcon’s Christmas Party this year.

While we had hoped to host this year’s party in the spectacular Flowing Wells Library MPR – which Kappcon built this year – we were really happy to instead transform our own warehouse into party space.

Thanks to Cadillac Mountain for jamming at our garage party (Thanks Joel, Rudy, Katy, and Heather).   Tucson friends, you need to see this bluegrass band.

Everyone feasted on delicious Italian dishes from Roma Imports and embibed in wine from Plaza Liquors (Thanks Mark for pointing out some good bottles).

Great job Anna for organizing this happy event.

Merry Christmas to our Employees – Friends and Families.

Nate

Horseshoe Canyon Remediation

Horseshoe Canyon is a special place on Kitt Peak.  Our team was tasked with remediation of a developed telescope site and giving it back to nature.  Our team walked through the site after the grading was completed.  Next step is to re-plant the site with salvaged native plants, new plants from salvaged seeds, and to add a harvested hydro-seed mix.

ASM Roland Basketry Gallery Remodel

Kappcon acted as the General Contractor to complete the remodel of a 1,000 sq foot Arizona State Museum gallery designed by Line and Space. The Arnold and Doris Roland Basketry Gallery, a part of the Woven Through Time exhibit, houses over 200 Native American artifacts from the Southwest. The renovated exhibit space effectively communicates the storied history of basketry’s ancient roots.

Upon entry from the lobby, visitors gain a dramatic line of site to the vault display, creating a powerful sense of arrival.

A compressive, abstract woven ceiling entrance marks the beginning of the visitor’s path. The woven steel conduit suspended from above creates a dynamic ceiling plane that echoes the weaves of a basket and ties the individual spaces within the gallery together.

Movement through the collection is an integrated flow between the past, present, and future of basketry.

The Gallery project will provide much needed public access, display, education and interpretive space for the Arizona State Museum’s Basket Collection, recipient of the Save America’s Treasures Award.
